Become

As long as he can
Buy a third house,
Seventh car,
Fourth wife,
He doesn’t care
How much his business
Destroys the planet,
All that matters is
Satisfying his overwhelming
Need to silence the voices
Deep inside that remind him of
Where he came from and
What he’s become.

Her Own Path

There was never a shortage
Of well-meaning and broken
People eager to tell here
What she should do,
Projecting their own fears
And failures on her and
Discounting her dreams.
It would take many years
Of living someone else’s
Life for her to figure out
That the only voice that
Mattered was hers and that
She could follow her own path.

Loot

Beneath counterfeit devoutness,
Noxious fervor to perpetuate a
Bad-faith scheme concocted by
Insecure men lusting for power,
Regardless of the consequences,
Human beings subjugated so
A few can protect their loot.

Be Perfect

Great news! I’m trying to be perfect.
It’s really fun, wish I was here,
What with doing so many things and
Getting every last detail just right and
Double checking everything and
Comparing myself to some arbitrary rule book and
Silencing the ghosts and
Measuring all the time.

She’s Done Well

She makes retrograde statements
That set her and her fellow
Human beings back
A hundred years,
Advocating for things
That keep her down,
Reflexively, thoughtlessly
Limiting her own success
On a daily basis.
She’s done well but
Could do much better.

Jargon

Making sure to use
As much jargon as possible,
He inundates the interaction
With unnecessary effluent,
Ensuring that no one
Understands anything
Or is able to question him.
At the end of the day
He’s happy that he didn’t
Have to appear weak
And goes home to
An empty apartment.

Plug

Willing to do anything,
Including destroying people,
To plug the gaping holes
Inside their rotting chests,
The ones that never
Heal, that they try
So hard not to acknowledge,
But that drive them to
Ghastly extremes just to
Satisfy, for a brief moment,
The unmanageable lust for
Complete dominion,
Humanity sacrificed for
Soiled supremacy.

Never Back Down

Never back down,
Refuse to cede ground,
It’s up to you to fight
For what’s right.
Defend your weakness
With copious bluster,
Don’t let them see
You have no idea
What you’re talking about,
And never have.

Postponed

Pulse racing,
Pupils dilated,
Awareness heightened,
Endorphins streaming,
Gulping air.
Harrowing experience
So close to the real thing.
What a rush,
He feels alive,
It begins wearing off
He’s forced to go back,
Be himself,
Look inside,
A fate postponed by
Each next thrill.
