A wave of discontent
Razes all traces of
Normalcy and leaves a
Gaping void that some
Charlatan eagerly steps
Into, promising to
Return everything to
Some mythic stasis,
Where everything was okay
And everyone knew
His place, a land of
Promise for a few.
An institution created by people
With an insatiable need to control
Others and enrich themselves at
The expense of the needy and
Gullible.
A cleverly designed trap, difficult to
Escape without risking death or
Eternal torment. Dogmas lined up in
A pretty little row, questioning
Forbidden.
Surrender your free will, you don’t
Have to worry about a thing,
We’ve got it all planned out,
A totalitarian scheme to divest you
From all.
They look up to him
As some kind of sage and
He’s more than happy
To use their adulation
As an excuse to
Behave reprehensibly,
Swollen with self-importance,
Believing his own hype,
A rubbish-filled fraud
Strutting around on a stage
Looking for his next victim.
Nothing can
Stop their agenda,
Broken people
Trying to feel
More secure in
A world made
Dangerous by them.
Self-fulfilling prophecy.
Duplicity,
Incompetence,
Cowardice.
Let’s make sure
They go to trade school
Instead of college,
After all,
We want to make sure
We stay on top,
Wouldn’t want all
Those people
Threatening our power,
So, let’s do everything we can
To keep them
Where they deserve to be.
When I let go
Of the need for
Someone else to be
Something else,
I find that I’m able
To breathe again,
Go about my business
Without the all-consuming
Fever that keeps me
Tied to anger,
Unable to move in any
Direction but down,
Wondering why I’m
Not acceptable.
Their family was forced
To flee to unfamiliar
Shores where they would
Work hard to become successful.
A small shop became an
International enterprise
Extending back to the
Land of their birth.
They sit around the table
Discussing ways to deny the
Same opportunity to others
Facing similar circumstances.
They wistfully summon
Memories of the old country,
Of simpler times and
Time-honored customs.
Reversing many years
Of precedent,
Supporting a cruel
Authoritarian ideology,
Lining their cronies’ pockets,
Keeping political allies happy,
They open the floodgates of
Brutality,
Countless people’s lives
Ending violently,
Children murdered,
Destabilizing society for power,
Psychopathic lack of remorse.
