Jubilation

There’s no unease
Around here about supporting
The worst people and causes,
Just a sense of jubilation at
Perpetuating a cycle of
Fear, anger, abuse, sickness.
Strutting around each day
Hiding their soft underbellies
Under gruff exteriors.
Inside they’re all children
Yearning for love,
Wanting to belong.
It’s hard to dream when
All you’ve known is nightmares.

Flagrant

A few companies
Collude to limit the
Choices available to
Consumers, oligopoly.

The fixed, painful,
Exorbitant cost
Of everything,
Lack of competition.

A rigged game,
Every move benefiting
Corporate
Behemoths.

Flagrant muggings
Perpetrated by
Sleazy swindlers
In expensive suits.

Shredded Shamelessly

Untethered behemoth
Brazenly throwing its
Weight around.
Cater to its every whim or
Be crushed under its
Remorseless might.
Flimsy shiny objects line
Endless aisles in a
Temple of rapaciousness.
Unhinged hunger for more,
Humans shredded shamelessly
Until nothing is left.

Big and Strong

Cowards assembling in groups
Intended to intimidate the
Already voiceless and powerless,
Promoting cruel beliefs
Steeped in fictitious phobias
Arising from profound insecurity,
A grim posse hunting down
It’s next victim,
Anyone who doesn’t conform
To their warped sense of entitlement.
They smile at each other,
Feeling big and strong for this brief moment.

Not You

A thoughtful walk on a
Pensive day with nowhere
In particular to go and
Many places to explore.
Reach down and trace
The innocent perfection
Of a tiny flower,
Overlooked by many,
But not you.

Submit

Slaughtering peaceful protesters
To protect a contaminated system
Put in place to protect only
Those who adhere to the party line,
The evening news proclaims
The rioters have been dealt with
And order once again rules.
Harsh oppressors without conscience,
The same story told in
Countless languages,
Appalling violence perpetuated
On the subjugated to appease
The obscene needs of psychopaths.

Shop

Shop, shop, everybody shop.
Buy, buy, everybody buy.
Acquire, acquire, acquire
Happiness through attic-filling stuff.
Silent indifferent objects
Slaking unmet needs.
Better, faster, shinier,
Now with more status.
Purchase me, purchase me,
A candle for the darkness.

Dare

Don’t you dare call him by
His real name,
You must use his title
Lest you incur the wrath of
He whose insecurity is
So pervasive that it forces
Other people to genuflect before him,
Filling him momentarily with
An illusion of superiority,
Of being on top of someone else and
Thus being more important,
A quivering mass of
Power-seeking obnoxiousness.

Working So Hard

Working so hard
To make sure
A lot of people
Suffer, that the
Nation becomes a
Barren wasteland of
A privileged few
Holed up behind
Walls hoping the
Rabble won’t come
After them for
What they’ve done.
