Enduring

No respite from
This chafing wind
Blasting from the
Area between his
Nose and chin.
Words crashing against
Ears that would rather
Be anywhere else in
The world than here
Enduring this
But for some lame
Rule that says you
Have to shut up
And take it.

Everything in His Power

He grew up in a
Horribly abusive family,
Passed around from
One ghastly relative to
Another, surrounded by
Chaos and violence
No matter where he went.

Eventually channeled into
The foster care system,
He lived with several
Families that seemed to
Have other things in mind
Other than really loving and
Caring for children like him.

Now in his forties,
He’s successful beyond
His wildest dreams, and
Does everything in
His power to make sure
No one has to go through
What he did.

Crusade

Ideology obliterating reality,
Adherence to party line paramount,
Superseding humanity,
Decisions made solely to benefit
A few unworthy ghouls
Sitting in their castles
Plotting the next crusade
No matter the number of casualties.

Insignificant

They mean business,
They’ll do anything
To get what they want,
Remorselessly destroy all
Obstacles in their path,
Including the planet
Where they live,
Just to try to silence
The voice inside that tells
Them they are insignificant,
The same one they
Heard when someone
They trusted betrayed them
And made them
Lose all hope.

Purely by Chance

He takes every opportunity
To bray about how
He’s made his own fortune,
Even though he knows
That all he’s had to do
Is be born purely by chance
Into a prosperous family and
Work far less than
Any person toiling for
Minimum wage, but that
Doesn’t sound as good as
Bragging about how well
He gambles the wealth
He inherited, an act that
Requires absolutely no genius.

Nothing Grows

A dismal death cult
Unmoved by evidence,
Driven by self-hate and
Fear of the other,
Supporting oppression to
Maintain their hold on power.
Nothing grows in
This barren environment,
Only devastation.

Only They Can

If only I could
Reassure them that
They will be okay,
That they don’t have to
Be scared of everything,
That no one is going to
Come and hurt them,
But I can’t,
Only they can
Deliver that message.

Health Insurance Policy

Every time I see how
Little is covered on my
Health insurance policy
For such a preposterous
Amount of money,
I’m reminded of how
Much better everything
Would be if I could
Bypass these corporate leeches,
Go to any doctor, get
Any procedure done, and
Just have it billed to
Medicaid or some other
Program funded by me and my
Fellow citizens because
We all care for each other and
Believe in the common good
Rather than ordinary greed.

Discarded

It was never going to
Go her way.

An abrupt,
Blunt realization.

It seemed so simple:
Feel for someone else.

No empathy forthcoming,
Just coldness.

Discarded when no longer
Feeding the pathology.

Rejected, unneeded,
Wondrous opportunities appear.
